Hands Free Feeding Twins

Posted on June 22, 2011 by No Comments

Nothing takes the place of having the time to enjoy feeding your baby; sitting comfortably on your sofa with baby in your arms guzzling away contentedly.  However, when you have twins to feed, sitting on the sofa relaxed is often something that only happens if you have a willing helper at feeding time whereby you can take a twin each.  If it’s just mum at home feeding her twins at the same time the scenario is very different.

As a mother of twins twice over I always found the easiest way to manage a double feed was by sitting in between my twins whilst they were sat in either their baby seats or their car seats.  If upstairs I would create a pillow prop on the bed and once again sit in between them holding both bottles in.  It’s difficult when one baby finishes their feed or stops in the middle and needs picking up for winding whilst the other is still feeding.  This is where many a twin mum will use a small pillow to prop the bottle up leaving your hands free to attend to the other twin.

My youngest twins are now 4 so it has been a while since I needed to perform the double feed with small pillow prop.  Whilst surfing the net I have come across some other products on the market for hands free feeding.  I can’t vouch for any of them personally but I thought it worth a mention for any new twin parents out there looking for solutions to the practical challenges that arise with having twins.

Podee Hands Free Bottles

The Podee Baby Bottle is a solution for parents of multiples.  In addition to the obvious benefit of hands free feeding the bottles have been developed to prevent colic, ear infections and reflux plus they can be used for feeding whilst travelling.  They can be used in buggies, car seats and bouncers.

Bebe Bottle Sling

The Bebe Bottle Sling is a solution for feeding when you need an extra pair of hands although it is not for use whilst on the move i.e. in a Car.  The Bottle Sling holds the bottle correctly ensuring the proper flow of milk; it works with all infant car seats; it works with all bottle sizes and types; it teaches babies how to hold their bottles; promotes hand-eye coordination and entertains the baby.
