Feeding Baby Twins

Feeding Twins is quite a challenge whether you bottle feed or breast feed. Another pair of hands at feeding time is always welcome but not always available. Ideally, feeding time should be a relaxing and an enjoyable time with your baby but the reality of feeding twins often turns into a rushed or difficult process rather than a relaxing one.

Some babies are hungrier than others and the twins are just as likely to be different to one another! A flexible approach is the key.

You may wonder whether you should feed them together or separately. Your time will be precious and you may decide that feeding them together would be the best use of that time. However, you will need to make allowances for the fact that not all babies can cope with four hourly feeding at first and decide to "feed on demand". It's all very well listening to one baby crying and having a pair of hands to comfort until the next feed is due but the reality of having two crying babies and one pair of hands means feeding can be very challenging.

I have heard of twin parents feeding one at a time and this is fine if it works but I haven't heard many tales from mothers saying their baby waits patiently for their milk! Although double feeding is stressful, feeding them separately would mean that the massively time consuming feat of feeding twins would just increase to the point that you would be constantly feeding and never able to do anything else. If you already have children this would be an impossible situation.
