Breast Feeding Twins
The experts would recommend breast feeding and we all can appreciate the benefits to breast milk but you have to look at your own unique set of circumstances to make the decision as to what’s best for you and your family. Do not feel under pressure by people that think they know best if you really feel you can’t manage it. After all, they aren’t the ones who are doing the job!
However, breast feeding twins isn’t impossible and many twin mums manage it successfully- hats off to them! Many say it is very challenging and some do give up after a few weeks. Even if you can manage it for just a few weeks it is beneficial to your twins and you should feel proud. There are special breast feeding cushions that can help with feeding twins and special methods can be taught into lifting and positioning the babies.
As with bottle feeding you will need to make allowances for the fact that not all babies can cope with four hourly feeding at first and decide to “feed on demand” so potentially you could spend much of your time feeding and not doing anything else.
If you question whether you would have enough milk to feed two babies, the answer would be yes. The more you feed the more milk you should produce. It’s all about supply and demand.
