Twins Age 2-4

I think Age 2 is a fair marker for when life gets slightly easier with twins although you will be facing new challenges.

By age 2 your twins should be firm on their feet, running around the garden, climbing up and down the stairs with an adult behind them for the just in case!  They are likely to have a good vocabulary making it easier for you to decipher what they are needing.  You may find you are able to manage short walks without a buggy.  You may even be worrying that they won’t fit into a double buggy for much longer let alone manage to push the ever increasing weight!

They are becoming more and more independent and likely throwing the odd tantrum through simple frustration at learning their new skills.

You are long past all of those nightmare milk feeds and they should be well established in your family meal patterns and feeding themselves just with the odd bit of encouragement and assistance when needed.

I personally think it gets easier as your twins get older and by the time they are 3 and certainly by the time they are 4 you will have far less practical problems presented by two babies or two small toddlers.  They are more robust and outdoor play doesn’t involve you chasing them both around in different directions only to keep them safe from climbing something too big or running in front of a swing.  Yes they are still learning but they are now aware of some of the dangers presented to them in a park or similar environment.

Often having two children of the same age can be easier than having one child or even one child and a younger sibling. Why? Because they have a constant companion and built in play mate who is at their exact stage of development.  This means, you are not their sole entertainer allowing you some space to achieve all of those household chores and other such jobs you have struggled with whilst your twins have been babies.
