Toys for Twins

It’s a natural and easy practice for you, your friends and family to treat your twins as individuals when they are fraternal girl/boy twin but when they are same sex twins it’s not so easy especially if they are identical or look very much alike.

Do not make the assumption just because they are twins that they will happily play with one toy together. Twins still have to learn the fundamentals of playing with other children, sharing, ownership, give and take and forgiveness the same as the next child does. Some may learn it earlier and faster than a singleton baby or toddler but nevertheless they still have to learn it.

If you are buying toys for your twins for their birthday or just for a treat or learning curve, please don’t make the mistake of buying everything for them to share. It’s not always necessary to purchase two identical items but often you will need two of something or one item they can definitely share or participate in together.

For example, if you only purchase one Ride On Toy you can expect them to squabble over it. Likewise, if you only buy them one doll and one buggy, they are unlikely to be happy about taking turns at such an early age. The key is to either buy two variations of the same toy so they can alternate and benefit that way whilst eliminating the squabbling and purchase other toys which they can happily share and participate in together.
