Twin Pregnancy Morning Sickness
Morning sickness is unfortunately a very common and unpleasant symptom of pregnancy however when carrying twins it can be more severe. It is thought to be linked to hormone levels. The levels of HCG increase during the early stages of pregnancy which is the most common time for morning sickness to occur and then decrease after the first trimester which is when the sickness usually stops. In a twin pregnancy, the HCG levels are higher resulting in the earlier onset of morning sickness and nausea with it often being more severe.
Twin Pregnancy Morning Sickness can be relentless staying with you all day and night with often the only reprieve being sleep. It’s not necessarily the case that you will be vomiting but the feeling of nausea can mean difficulties with eating at a time when eating a nutritionally balanced diet is imperative to the well being of your unborn twins.
Many women experience a heightened sense of smell which may cause an aversion to certain food smells or even being in or around the kitchen.
How to combat Twin Pregnancy Morning Sickness
Often nausea is worse on an empty stomach hence the term “morning sickness”. Try to snack regularly rather than eating large meals. Large meals are harder to digest and can leave the stomach battling with the left over acids which can also cause Nausea. It can be difficult to maintain a healthy diet whilst dealing with morning sickness but it’s obviously important to try your best.
